song 64 is another from ryan/pill friends. this time called ‘prayers’. it’s a demo (tape recorded - as is important later) with just acoustic guitar and vocals. i’m excited to see where it goes and i hope he does something with it for a new pill friends release/one off thing even. it’d be great with cello or something but it also stands alone really well with just guitar. it doesn’t lose any of ryan’s nihilistic charm but it also doesn’t lose any of his pop sensibility - this is probably one of the catchiest songs i’ve heard from him.

the ending, he said, turned out how it did because his tape player started dying while recording, but i think it sounds awesome and adds that layer of strange, dissonant darkness that ryan’s songs so often collect one way or another.

hooray! you can now stream or download the full and finished versino of our new song ‘nobody’ via this rad rad 4 way split from topshelf. it features us, old gray, modern baseball, and the hundred acre woods. if you buy it all proceeds go to a charity. but here’s our song from it if you wanna check it out. it went up on 420 (as a live demo) a long time ago but this is the full band version. i couldn’t be happier with it. it’s also a love song in a very traditional and not dark sense so i’m happy it’s coming out today :)

London Street Diary - 03/02/2013

My Sunday was a really good day. I was tidying my room, doing my laundry, playing guitar and resting after yesterday evening. It was still buzzing in my ears and I could not hear properly. But the yesterday show was amazing. In the evening I went to City to St Helen’s Church and had really good time there. There was a pastor from Kentucky giving really great sermon. After the service we had as usually a student supper with a really good talk. Back home I was preparing the mixtape made by Ryan Wilson to be published. I want to get involved more people doing similar compilations from different parts of US (or world). It is a great way how to explore new music and I really enjoy doing so. Rest of the evening I was watching Super Bowl for the first time in my life. I think that other sports are more enjoyable, but it is a great event.

London Street Diary - 31/01/2013

I had always thought that bureaucracy in Slovakia is crazy, but in UK it is even worse. You have to fill out tons of papers and you are still not done. The most bizarre thing was to fill out a form, where you were listing people who will get your salary after something happens to you aka you will die. It made me laugh. My shift today started at 6 am and I was expecting it will be hard for me to do it, but surprisingly I was so fresh and it went well. Though my co-workers looked like zombies so it was funny to work with them. I have found today in my mailbox the first ticket to a show of Canadian Metz, who will be playing in London on Saturday. I am so excited to see them and I hope I will meet there some new friends. Today I was also uploading songs to my Starttracker’s bandcamp for a mixtape made by Ryan Wilson from Pill Friends. It consists of bands from Philadelphia and it sounds just wonderful. It is one of the best compilation I have ever heard and it will be free to download. I will keep you posted when it is published.

ORCHID TAPES TAPE MACHINE MIXTAPE CONTEST 2012

Hi guys, we’ve had a really incredible past couple of months what with relocating to the States and all the releases by amazing artists that we’ve worked to put out, so we’ve decided it’s time to give back in the form of a contest!

Our early Christmas present to you; a bundle of recent Orchid Tapes releases and a National Panasonic RS-260US top-loading tape player / recorder from 1973 that can be used with or without a stereo receiver (more info here). I’ve had a personal obsession with this style of tape machine for the past little while and I’m super excited to get one of them out to you guys.

Škótsko // 24. november // Deň #073

Už len mesiac a sú tu Vianoce. Darčeky ešte samozrejme nemám nakúpené, okrem trička pre sestru. Dnes som celý deň sedel za počítačom a čakal na správy z burzy. Dopadla výborne, len už boli problémy s priestormi. Predávajúci sa už nezmestili do KC Dunaja, tak asi budeme musieť vymyslieť niečo iné. Predalo sa mi celkom veľa kníh, ktoré som poslal zo Škótska, takže som spokojný aj po tejto stránke. Dnešný dňom sa zavŕšila akási etapa tohto roku. Ďalšie burzy bude mať pod palcom brat, aby mal o tom lepší prehľad. Ja aj tak budem preč, či už v Škótsku, Londýne alebo na Floride. Dnes som dopozeral posledný film od Wesa Andersona a plánujem sa posunúť na ďaľšieho režiséra. Horúcim adeptom je Larry Clark, ktorý práve natočil skvelý film Marfa Girl, ktorý sa dá tu za 6 dolárov pozrieť: http://larryclark.com/marfagirl/ Za tie peniaze sa to oplatí, ten film aj tak nikde inde neuvidíte, ani v kine ani na DVD. Po Moonrise Kingdom najlepší tohtoročný film, ktorý som videl. Písal som si dnes aj s jedným chalanom z Philadelphie zo skvelej kapely Pill Friends: http://pillfriends.bandcamp.com. Strašne mi chválil môj start-track, čo ma veľmi potešilo. Blog si robím hlavne pre seba, ale vždy mi vyčarí úsmev na tvári, keď sa niekomu páči. Škoda je, že ho nesleduje viacej ľudí, lebo tie kapely, čo tam dávam, sú naozaj dobré a počúvania hodné. Musím vymyslieť nejaké dobré promo, ale takisto sa poteším, ak mi ho pomôžete rozšíriť: http://start-track.com/ Mám výsledky aj z eseje z Filmu. Mal som rovnako 17 z 20 ako z English, čo ma dosť prekvapilo, lebo tá esej bol hrozne napísaná, ale tak nesťažujem sa. Spravil som dnes aj test z History of Art na plný počet. Bodaj by nie, keď som pritom cheatoval. Veď som študent, nie?
